GREENVILLE — Billy Joe Browning, 80, of Greenville passed away Jan. 6, 2013, in Greenville.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1932, in Fluvanna to Alfred and Viola Browning. Billy served 15 years in the U.S. Army, served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War and he was also an Army recruiter. He was honorably discharged as an E-7 sergeant.

Billy Joe married his loving wife of 50 years, Sylvette Browning on Sept. 3, 1962, in France. He started his own commercial construction company, building a number of nursing home facilities throughout Texas, an apartment complex and a subdivision, both in Greenville, and introduced the mall to Greenville as well.

Billy is survived by his wife, Sylvette Browning; a son, Bradley J. Browning and wife Jane of Greenville; son Randy Browning of Big Springs; stepson Eric You of Lone Oak; grandchildren Brian Browning and Dereck Browning; stepgrandchildren Jeremy You and Chris Southard; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Cora King and husband Curtis and Eula McDonnell and husband R.W.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Lynch Funeral Service chapel.
