Brad Hager

Bradley Kent Hager was born June 28, 1954, in Harper, Kan. His family moved to Greenville in 1966 where he attended Bowie Elementary. His parents are Beverly Antrim Hager and Victor Hager of Greenville. His brother is Greg Hager of Cedar Park.

Brad graduated from Greenville High School in 1972, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council. His senior year he was voted “Best All Around,” football captain and “Most Valuable Player,” as well as class president.

In 1975 he met the love of his life, Debra Susan Bacon. They married in 1977 in Mount Vernon. Brad graduated that same year from East Texas State University, where he was a proud member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. In 1978 he was hired at E-Systems, later to become Raytheon and L-3. During his loyal 35 years of service to his employer he received the Award of Excellence.

His children are Bradley Kent Hager Jr. and wife Krista of Rowlett, Michael Silas Hager of Rowlett and Taylor Michele Hager. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2007. He is blessed with two beautiful grandchildren, Garrett Allen Heath Hager and Harper Taylor Hager.

He coached football, basketball, baseball, softball and soccer for both his children and grandchildren in Greenville and Lone Oak. His favorite pastimes were being with his entire family and going to ball games.

On Nov. 12, 2012, Brad and Debra celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. They renewed their vows and rededicated their lives to Christ during their stay at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Okla. There, Brad passed away peacefully holding his family’s hands on Nov. 14.

Brad Hager requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Taylor Hager Memorial Fund at Bank of America. A donation will be made to nonprofit cancer research and educational programs to keep our loved ones from ever picking up their first cigarette.

His doctors told him smoking stole at least 25 years of his life. He asked Debra to pass this information forward, for him.

A celebration of his life will be Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Lone Oak in Lone Oak at 2 p.m. Following the service, his body will rest at Weiland Cemetery beside his beloved daughter, Taylor.

Lynch Funeral Service of Greenville is in charge of arrangements.
