Merrell Eugene Brumley Sr., formerly of Terrell, passed away Oct. 22, 2012, in Greenville.
He was born March 13, 1929, in Greenville to John and Alma Brumley, both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kay Brumley; son Merrell Eugene Brumley Jr. and seven brothers and sisters.
Merrell was a veteran having served with the U.S. Marine Corps and was a longtime resident of Terrell. A familiar face with many friends who enjoyed his easygoing personality, he could always be counted on to keep his word and do the right thing in any situation.
He loved to bowl and go fishing and truly enjoyed time spent on vacation and traveling to Las Vegas. His wonderful smile and engaging personality will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Becky Brumley Stiggers; grandson Chaz Stiggers; a brother, J.W. “Bill” Brumley and wife Jeffie, all of Terrell; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who loved him and will miss him.
His family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Rick and the wonderful staff of Briarcliff Health Center and Hospice Plus for all of their amazing skill and care for Merrell — you are all truly angels on Earth.
A Celebration of Life is at 3:30 p.m. today at Anderson-Clayton Bros. chapel. A private interment will be at a later date where Merrell will be laid to rest with his son.
