FORT WORTH — Bertie Ruth Lantrip Heck, 81, passed away Feb. 3, 2013.

Ruth was born in Commerce on May 6, 1931, to Joseph and Kittie Knight Lantrip. She graduated from East Texas State Teachers College, now Texas A&M University-Commerce, in 1950 with a master’s in education.

She served as an elementary art teacher nearly 50 years, with 27 of those in the Fort Worth ISD.

Ruth married John C. Heck on Jan. 29, 1955, in Lockney. She was a lifetime member of the PTA, active in the East Texas University Wesley Foundation and in recent years enjoyed attending Southcliff Baptist Church and the Bethany Class with her sister.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Shelley Mack Lantrip; and sister Frances Blasingame. She is with us always.

Survivors are her husband of 58 years, John C. Heck; sons Frank Heck (Linda), Steve Heck (Debbie), and Jimmy Heck (Sheila); grandchildren Liz, Mark, Valerie, Taryn and James Heck; great-grandson Max Cook; six nieces; two nephews; and numerous other family and friends.

A celebration of life for Ruth will be at 12:30 p.m.T uesday at Laurel Land Chapel of the Chimes in Fort Worth. Interment will be at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
