Bill Brooks

— Bill Brooks of Greenville passed away Dec. 31, 2012.

He was a resident of Greenville for 31 years and formerly from Chillicothe, Ohio. He was a member of American Legion, Amvets, VFW, and American Pool Assoc.(APA). He loved billiards, fishing, hunting and spending time with family.

He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Buskirk Brooks of South

Carolina; his loving wife, Donna Maxine Brooks of Greenville; his son, Tony Brooks, of Greenville; daughter Shannon Marie Moore and husband Chuck of East Tawakoni; brother Randy Brooks and wife Angie of South Carolina; grandson Tyler James Wooten of Greenville; grandaughter Taylor Shea Brooks of Galveston; niece Kirsten Brooks of Ohio; sister-in-law Kaye Edge and brother-in-law Gary Robinson from Florida; and other nieces and nephews too many to list.

Bill was born Sept. 8, 1945. He served in the military from 1964 to 1967.

He was awarded a Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Rifle Expert Badge, and Pistol Sharpshooter Badge. Bill moved his family from Ohio to Texas in 1981 and started at Brookshire’s Grocery Store as a butcher, retiring in 2008.

 He was a wonderful father and was loved by many. He enjoyed playing pool and being captain on some pool teams. His friends and family and pool players meant a great deal to him.

 He loved his hunting, fishing, and playing pool along with many family get-togethers around the lake as he would sit for hours enjoying the the scenery.

He will be greatly missed by the lives he has touched in many ways.

He always had a way to make you feel everything would always be OK with that beautiful smile he had.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Robert Brooks; grandmother Winnie Gray Buskirk; grandfather Bill Buskirk; grandmother Stella Brooks; and grandfather John W Brooks, all of Chillicothe, Ohio.

A memorial is at 7 p.m. today at the Top Rail Cowboy Church located on Farm Road 499 Horseman Road in Greenville (formerly known as the Horseman’s Club).

Hilliard Funeral Home of Van is in charge of arrangements.
