GREENVILLE —
Primrose Murrell was born June 24, 1923 to the parentage of the late Willie Andrews and Lillie Mae Thomas in Wolfe City.
She first joined in marriage with the late J.B. Thompson, and to this union one daughter was born, Shirley Ann. After his death, Primrose married the late James Murrell, and they made Greenville their home. Together, they raised two granddaughters as their own, Deborah Thompson Hoskins and Kimetha Thompson Spoon. Thereafter, Primrose helped with the rearing of three great-granddaughters, Veronica Anderson Chancellor, Emily Cozine Thompson, Amber Casselberry; a great-grandson, Calvin “C.J.” Spoon; a great-great-grandson, Erick Cozine, and the children of the late Helen Myers.
Primrose was known to her family as “Mama Prim”.
She united in Christian faith with the Wesley Chapel C.M.E. Church in Greenville. She was very active and continued to work in the House of the Lord until her health began to fail. Primrose served as the president of the Stewardess Board and on the Benevolent Committee in the Women’s Missionary Society.
In the community, she was a member of the Standard Aid Civic Club of Greenville until it became non-active. And she was also an honorary member of the NACWC Darcus Club of Hunt County.
Throughout her life she continued to touch the lives of others through her character of wit, love and honesty. Let us never forget that she was never afraid to tell you what she was thinking!
Mama Prim departed life on this side in the warmth and comfort in the home of her grandchildren and caretakers, Kimetha and Calvin Spoon in Riverdale, Ga., on Dec. 12, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a brother, and one great-grandson, Anquinn Fluellen.
Mama Prim leaves to forever cherish her memories: her daughter, Shirley Collins of Greenville, stepson Marvin Murrell of Dallas; 11 grandchildren, Rev. Deborah Hoskins, Rosa Fluellen, Ronnie Fluellen, Donnie Fluellen, Audrie Hubbard and husband Steve, Amanda Casselberry and husband Larry, Charvette Goodman and husband Alvin, Kimetha Spoon and husband Calvin, Wilford Collins, Tanya Hubbard and husband William, and Lacey Waters; 17 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; cousins, J.W. Thomas and family of Dallas, Patricia Crockett and family of Wolfe City, Charlie Thomas and family of Wolfe City, the Wesley Chapel C.M.E. Church family, a host of other relatives and friends.
Her homegoing service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wesley Chapel CME Church with Rev. Harold Wright as eulogist and Minister Ralph Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City.
Visitation is today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Grace & Mercy-Grundy Funeral Home.
