CADDO MILLS —
Johnny Duane Rose, 68, of Caddo Mills, died July 5, 2012.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Lynch Funeral Home in Caddo Mills.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Full Gospel Worship Center in Caddo Mills, with interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Caddo Mills
He was born Sept. 30, 1943, in Torrance, Calif., to John and Reba Rose. He spent a good part of his youth growing up in the beautiful hills of Arkansas.
For a portion of his life, Johnny was separated from his siblings before being reunited with his brothers, Floyd Rose of Murphy, Texas; James Harold Jones of Little Rock, Ark.; and sisters, Louise Oliver of Louisville, Ky., and Edie Smith of Greenwood, Miss.
He joined the Navy and served on the USS Helena during the Vietnam War, and his shipmates remember him for his loyalty, bravery and occasional mischief while serving his country domestically as well as overseas.
He eventually left the Navy and continued his life by having his first daughter, Zandra Janis of Orlando, Fla., who taught him the true meaning of love. The love did not stop there, with four more children and their spouses blessing his life, stepdaughter Barbara and husband Marc Ford of Arkansas, stepson Paul Burks of Arkansas, John Jr. and wife Amanda Rose of Arkansas, and James and wife Carie Rose of Texas.
With his siblings and family, he was witness to many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Johnny developed a natural love for wood and building things with his hands, so he became a master carpenter early in life. He used these skills to raise a family, which he taught right from wrong and to treat others with respect and trust.
Those who knew him got the usual greeting of a smile or “Hello Darlin.” He was known for his big heart, listening skills and ability to mediate even some of the toughest situations for others. His ability to see all sides of a problems was a priceless trait. For him, helping others was a want-to-do, not a have-to-do thing. This he enjoyed above all other things. Giving of himself was not uncommon.
Unfortunately he was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in 2009, which he fought until his passing on July 5, 2012. He was surrounded by his family, including his lifelong partner Rebecca Tanksley and friends at this time of passing, and will be remembered for all that he was and still is in the hearts and minds of those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Rose of Texas, Dub Rose of Oklahoma; and his parents, John and Reba Rose.
