GREENVILLE —
Katie Ernestine Williams, 78, of Greenville died July 29, 2012, at her home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Clark Street Christian Church with Rev. C.L. Faulkner officiating. Burial will be in East Mount Cemetery.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home.
Born Feb. 12, 1934, in Lodie, she was the daughter of Rayfield and Georgia Mae Earvin. She was a retired school cafeteria manager. Mrs. Williams was a member of Clark Street Christian Church and there she began the “Feed the Hungry” program in 1987. She was awarded the Worthy Citizen Award in 1991 for her humanitarian efforts.
Surviving are seven sons, Rodrick Young (Linda) of Portland, Ore., James Johnson Jr. of Houston, Willie Earl Johnson of Greenville, Kennedy F. Johnson of Houston, Claudis Wayne Williams Sr. of Greenville, Richard A. Williams of Plano and Tyrin Q. Williams Sr. of Greenville; three daughters, Rita D. Dentch (Sampson) of Dallas, Thressa Young of Greenville and SandraWilliams Smith (Paul) of Greenville; her mother-in-law, Lois Williams of Greenville; 29 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, two sisters, one brother, two daughters and a son preceded her in death.
