Albert Benson

COMMERCE — Albert Lee Benson, 79, passed away Nov. 18, 2012, at his home in Commerce.

Albert was born on Sept. 7, 1933, in Jefferson to Maudie Paige and Edgar Benson. On Sept. 3, 1955, he married the love of his life, Elois Julian, in Greenville; and they enjoyed 55 wonderful years together until her death in 2010.

He was the original owner of Benson Brothers Wrecker Service in Commerce. Albert often attended Cross Trails Cowboy Church and enjoyed playing music with his brothers and friends.

 He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren;  his “red” Ford truck; and, after retirement, he enjoyed restoring old cars and traveling (especially trips to Las Vegas).

Albert was a longtime member of the Commerce Emergency Corps.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Elvin Benson, Thomas Benson, Edward Benson, Sam Benson, and Hugh Benson; and, his mother-in-law, Edith Julian.

Survivors include his son, Rickey Benson of Commerce; his daughter, Connie King and husband Mark of Commerce; his brothers, Bill and Juanita Benson of Commerce and Finis and Karen Benson of Terrell; his sister, Hazel Sulpulva of Lufkin; his sister-in-law, Brenda Benson of Commerce; his brother-in-law, Jerry Julian of Little Elm; his granddaughter, Christy Guest and husband Jim Bob Guest of Commerce; his grandson, Rickey James Benson and wife Amy Jo Benson of Seagoville; his great-grandsons,  Christopher Gutierrez, Cody Clark, Bryson Benson; his great-granddaughter, Alli Paige Benson; and, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside services are at 1 p.m. today at Brigham Cemetery in Campbell with Bro. Jason Rector and Jason Cunningham officiating under the direction of Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home of Commerce.

Pallbearers will be Jason Cunningham, Justin Cunningham, Jake Cunningham, Robert Smith, Donald Pryor and Fred Eaton. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Crouch and Kenneth Jones.
