Bill McLendon III

COMMERCE — William Frank “Bill” McLendon III, 57, of Commerce, was taken from us on July 25, just one day before his 58th birthday. Bill was a dedicated son, father, and husband.

He was a most remarkable man who proudly had a 35-year career in law enforcement, serving as a lieutenant in Euless, police chief in Sitka, Alaska, and police chief in Iola, Kans.  He was awarded the Medal of Valor for saving the life of two youngsters in Alaska.

Bill is survived by his loving mother, Shirley McLendon of Commerce, and his devoted wife, Penny McLendon.

Bill loved his four children — Michelle Lea Myers, William Frank “Willie” McLendon IV, Patrick William McLendon and Christopher Mychal McLendon. He had one step-daughter, Rachel Abbey Goodwin.  He also shared his love with his eight grandchildren — Jakob, Kaitlyn and Logan Myers; Garren and Chase Goodwin; Lillian McLendon; and C. J. and Stella McLendon.

After retiring from law enforcement, Bill and his wife, Penny, moved to Commerce where they started and operated Mr. Bill’s Farrier Service for the past four years.

He loved working with horses and had a real passion for helping all animals.  He made many friends while traveling throughout Hunt, Delta and Lamar counties, working with his wife at his side.

Commerce Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. There will be a visitation and viewing at the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. Monday, followed by services at noon.

The eulogy will be given by Euless Police Chief Mike Brown, Bill’s best and trusted friend.

Since the Texas heat will wilt any flowers, please send memorials to The Euless Police Department Benevolent Organization at 1102 W. Euless Boulevard, Euless, 76040.
