GREENVILLE — Jamal “Mel” Stanton was born Sept. 9, 1992, to the parentage of Glenda Stanton Tyson of Greenville and Melvin Smith of Queen City. Jamal loved life, sports and his family. He attended the Greenville Independent School District. Jamal gave his life to Christ at an early age and became a member of New United Church in Greenville.

Jamal departed this life Nov. 28, 2012.

He leaves to cherish and honor his memoris his parents, Darryl and Glenda Tyson of Greenville; his father, Melvin Smith of Queen City; three sisters, LaShundra Stanton, Chante Hawkins (Aaron) of Greenville and Triesha Tyson of Milwaukee, Wis.; four brothers, Darryl Tyson Jr. (Maya), Raymond Payton of Greenville, Marcus Lacy and Antron Williams of Dallas; grandparents Leon and Essie Stanton of Greenville, grandmother Dorothy Smith of Caddo Mills; two uncles, Ronnie Stanton (Patricia) and Cedric Stanton (Kaquania) of Greenville; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and other relatives.

Jamal was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, a grandfather, one aunt and a daughter.

His funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Lighthouse of Prayer, 2508 Langford, in Greenville with Rev. Cedric Stanton and Rev.Micheal Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Grundy Memorial Park.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Grace & Mercy Funeral Home.
