Connie Burnett

GREENVILLE — Services for Connie Burnett, 51, of Cotton Center, Texas, are at 10 a.m. today in the First Baptist Church, Cotton Center, with Rev. J.D. Templeton and Rev. Randy Land officiating. Burial follows in the Center Plains Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Hale Center, Texas.

Mrs. Burnett died Sept. 2, 2012, in Houston.

She was born March 11, 1961, in Winter Park, Fla., to Rex Hardy and Nell (Hunt) Taylor. She grew up in Greenville and Caddo Mills and earned her bachelor’s from Stephen F. Austin. She taught Business School in the Dallas area and served as a journeyman in Brazil for two years. After returning from Brazil, she became employed with ARCO Oil and Gas and worked in Yemen for a short time before returning to Dallas. She married Kyle Burnett on Aug. 13, 1994, in Greenville. She taught second grade at Cotton Center ISD for five years until becoming ill in the summer of 2008. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cotton Center.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nell Taylor, when Connie was age 14. Her father, Rex Taylor, also preceded her in death and a brother, Chris Davis Cole in 2001.

Connie is survived by her husband, Kyle Burnett, and two daughters, Abbie and Macie Burnett, all of Cotton Center; stepmother Linda Shockley and husband Charles of Branson, Mo.; and three siblings, Stephen Grady Taylor of Coppell, Mark Nelson Taylor of Lewisville and Becky Lynn Veak of the Phoenix, Ariz., area.

Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.
