Lewis Smith

GREENVILLE — RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Lewis Ferrell Smith passed away Christmas Day, 2012, at his home in Riverside, Calif.

He was born Nov. 4, 1932, in Campbell to Lewis Elvin and Bonnie Novella Smith. He graduated from Bland High School where he was voted “Most Athletic.” After serving in the Navy for four years, during which time he played baseball for them, he met his loving wife Eva at the USO. They were married in 1955 and started their family soon after. Eva worked to help put Lewis through college at San Jose State University where he graduated in 1960 with a degree in industrial technology.

Then they moved to Southern California where Lewis started working for Hunter Engineering and eventually for Alumax Mill Products, from which he retired. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV across the country and also golfing. He also enjoyed good jokes, a good poker game (usually at the Elks Lodge), good food, good wine, a good western movie, coin collecting and good times with his family and friends. Lewis was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He was always the first to have a smart witty remark and loved to make others laugh. He will be missed by all but never forgotten.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eva; a brother, Gerald Don “Duggar”; sons Mark (Lori) and Gary (Leslie); a daughter, Lisa Beyer; and his grandchildren, Lindsey, Lauren, Todd, Sarah, Tanae, Jenna and Nichelle.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Jan. 18, at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 2, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, Calif. 92518.
