Gloria Campbell

GREENVILLE — WOLFE CITY — Gloria Ann Campbell (Erwin) of Georgetown, passed away Jan. 4, 2013 in her home with complications of C.O.P.D. She was born Jan. 11, 1937 to Edna Earl Woodson Holman and Jess Erwin. Her early years growing up were in her much loved Wolfe City with short stints in Portsmith, Va.; Waltham, Mass., and Hawaii with her Navy father. Upon high school graduation she moved to Dallas and soon met a young medical student, Dr. James R. Campbell Jr. They married and raised a family of two sons; James R. Campbell III and William (Bill) Earl Campbell in the Dallas and Fairview area where her husband was a pathologist for Collin Memorial Hospital in McKinney. Shortly after her husband’s death in 2003 she moved to Georgetown with her son James.

From a much loved little girl in Wolfe City to head cheerleader and beauty queeen in high school to head of the Women’s Tennis Association at Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas to elegant Christmas dinners and joyous family barbecues, Gloria was a very active and beautiful woman. She was a talented decorator, seamstress and painter — she was an artist. She lived her life to the fullest and with gusto until C.O.P.D. took so much away. She fell asleep loved by many.

She is survived by her sons James of Georgetown and William of Florida; her former daughter-in-law, Robin Johnston and husband Ted and two grandchildren, Rachel Elise Johnston and Mack Johnston of Allen.

Services will be Monday, January 7, at Owens Funeral Home in Wolfe City. Funeral Liturgy will begin at 11 a.m. followed by graveside service at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Monsignor Dr. Don Joseph Sawyer will be the officiant assisted by Father Daniel Forsythe.
