GREENVILLE —
F.D. “Papa” Chapman of Greenville passed away July 1, 2012, at Briarcliff Nursing Center of Greenville.
Mr. Chapman was born in Sulphur Springs on April 4, 1924, to Charles E. and Dora McCarty Chapman.
He was a longtime member of Park Street Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching God’s word. He retired from E-Systems after 35 years of service. He enjoyed playing bass guitar and singing in numerous bands he played with in the Greenville area.
He is survived by daughter Vicki Myford and husband Paul of Houston; a son, Marcus Chapman and wife Jeanne of Kaufman; granddaughters Deanna Johnson and husband Larry of Deer Park and Deidra Davis and husband Jerry Ray of Lampasas; grandsons Aaron Chapman and Jenna Van Wallendael of Austin, Bryan Myford and wife Christi of Hempstead, Bryan Tucker of Brownsboro and Clint Tucker of Kaufman; great-grandchildren Gary Davidson, Mitchell Davidson, Kailey Davis and Jonathan Davis, Seth Myford and Paige Myford; a sister, Jewel Chapman Martin of Sulphur Springs, and brother-in-law Ralph Funderburk of Greenville.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Ruth Kemp Chapman; his parents; four brothers and three sisters.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday in the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Johnny Hailes officiating. Internment will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Pallbearers will be son-in-law, Paul Myford, and grandsons Aaron Chapman, Gary Davidson, Mitchell Davidson, Bryan Tucker and Clint Tucker.
