WILLS POINT —
Funeral services for Larry Wendell Furrh, 72, of Tyler and formerly of Wills Point, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point, with Rev. Don Tisdale and Chaplain Eddie Secrest officiating.
Burial will follow at Smyrna Cemetery near Emory.
Mr. Furrh passed away peacefully on March 15, 2013, at his home in Tyler.
Larry Wendell Furrh was born July 2, 1940, in the Enterprise Community just north of Wills Point to Ivy O. and Nona Bell Patterson Furrh. He grew up in Wills Point and graduated from Wills Point High School.
He completed IBM courses at Dallas Tabulating School, but later decided to join the United States Air Force. He served his country for four years, spending 21 months stationed at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska.
Larry Wendell married the love of his life, Mary Sherline “Sherl” Hogue on June 12, 1964, in Edgewood.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator in the Air Force and also helped with the building of Lake Tawakoni. He was employed as a machinist with E-Systems, which became LTV, which later became Raytheon, and then became L3 Communications, and retired from both Raytheon and L3 Communications.
Larry lived in Wills Point and moved to Tyler three years ago. He always said you could travel Highway 47 and see his life. He was a member of Seven Oaks Baptist Church in Wills Point.
Larry Wendell is preceded in death by his parents, Ivy and Nona Belle Furrh; an infant brother, Billy Dean Furrh; sister and brother-in-law, Winona and Bill Abel, brothers-in-law, John Mitchell and Clois Hogue, and sister-in-law, Janis Old.
He is survived by his wife, Sherl Furrh of Tyler; daughter, Debbie Nizza and husband, Tom; son, Toby Furrh and wife, Melissa; sister, Winell Mitchell; mother-in-law, Murline Hogue; brothers-in-law, Preston Hogue, David Old, Windell Hogue and wife Joy, Joe Paul Hogue and wife, Lou Ann; sister-in-law, Pam Hogue; grandchildren, Shea, Rebecca and Shelby; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Journie, Mia, AnnaLee and Caleb; step-grandchildren, Nick, Mason and Avery; close friend, Burt Sanborn; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Wills Point.
Memorials may be made to the immediate family to contribute towards Wendell’s permanent monument to be set at Smyrna Cemetery.
A meal for the family will be served at the Rocky Point Community Center approximately three miles south of Emory on Highway 19 at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
