JAMES VAUGHN

GREENVILLE — James Edward Vaughn, 95, of Greenville passed away March 14, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Benny Chaffin officiating. Burial will follow at Caney Cemetery.  

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.                   

James was born Nov. 25, 1917, in the Branom Community between Commerce and Sulphur Springs to Ollie Edward and Georgia Annie Brown Vaughn. In 1935 the family moved south of Campbell. He married Ada Marie Bonham on Nov. 30, 1946. They made their home and raised their family in Greenville.  

He joined the U.S. Army in 1940 and served until after World War II ended in 1945. He was a member of the 2nd Division, Company C, Medical Division. He was in charge of the ambulance drivers in his company. He participated in D-Day +1 and the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from Lone Star Gas Company in 1973 and went to work for Brad Curtis at Curtis Appliance and retired again in 1984. He was a member of Caney United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school for many years.

He is survived by his wife of Greenville; a daughter, Patsy Stovall and husband Larry of Greenville; sons Duane Vaughn and wife Donna of Fulshear and G.E. Vaughn and wife Janis of Greenville; a brother, Gearl Vaughn and wife Billye of Magnolia; sisters Sue Smith of Campbell and Allean Taylor of Granbury; grandchildren Jeri Davis, Brian Stovall, Jennifer Vaughn, Ryan Vaughn, Justin Vaughn, Matthew Vaughn and Kevin Vaughn; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Ola Fay Vaughn, Aletrice Aven and Mae Speed; and brothers Nolan Vaughn, Ralph Vaughn, Dean Vaughn and D.J. Vaughn.

Pallbearers will be Leslie Vaughn, Larry Vaughn, Jimmy Cathey, Lynn Cathey, Ronnie Ramsey and Nathan Smith.
