Elmo Best

GREENVILLE — Elmo Hershell Best, 86, passed away Aug. 27, 2012, in Greenville.

Elmo was born Oct. 1, 1925, to Jerry and Annie Best in Duncan, Okla. Elmo married Lorraine, his wife of 31 years in January 1979.

Elmo served his country in the United States Army, then continued his career as a plumber. He worked for more than 50 years in this profession. Elmo worked at various times for B C Plumbers, Milton B. Levy and retired from United Plumbing. Elmo loved the outdoors. He loved being out feeding and raising his animals, mending fences, mowing his fields or just walking the land God had given him. Elmo loved his family. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren.

But Elmo’s true passion was for the ministry. Elmo served for 50-plus years in the pulpits of the Pentecostal Church of God in both Oklahoma and Texas. His last pastorate was the Eastside Pentecostal Church of God in Greenville where he served for 10 years. Elmo spent much of his time reading God’s Word, praying and serving others. His love for his Lord and Savior was evident in his every action of every day. His loving and giving spirit will truly be missed.

Brother Elmo is preceded in death by his parents, siblings — four sisters and two brothers, and his wife.

Those left to celebrate his life include his daughters, Delilah Dietz and Eileen Arterberry; son-in-law Dale Arterberry; grandchildren David E. Simms, Amy Spraggins, Heath Tywater, Brittany Cenkus and Clayton Dietz; great-grandchildren Kevin Lynn Jr., Jordan Allan, Haley Michelle, Brooke Nicole, Delanie Paige, Bailey Denae, Zachary Chase, Shyla Mae, and Landon Heath; and numerous nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.

Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Peters Funeral Home in  Greenville. Interment will follow at Hogeye Cemetery in Celeste.

A gathering of friends and family is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
