Ella Mae Dixon

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have Kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” — II Timothy 4: 6-8

Ella Mae Dixon received her crown on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, in Dallas. She was 62 years old. Ella was a former resident of Honey Grove.

She was born May 8, 1950, in Vernon, Texas, to Maggie Lee Moreland and Frank McKinley Dixon. Ella had been a nurse at Hunt Regional Hospital in Greenville where she retired. She had also worked as a nurse at McCuistion Regional in Paris.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her two sisters; and her grandson, Darrington Dixon.

Survivors include her three sons, Leigh Dixon (Angel) of Honey Grove, Damon Dixon of Mesquite, and Eric Dixon of Huntsville; her daughter, Vanessa Scott (Anthony) of Mesquite; her adopted daughter, Kawanna West; her brothers, Glenn Dixon, James Dixon, James Scott and Melvin Scott; her sisters, Magnolia Fields, Helen Roberts, Mary Stillwell, Vera Scott, Verna J. Scott, and Virginia Scott; her grandchildren, Michael Dixon (Asia), Alisha Dixon, Candisha Smith, Dontrel Finney, Laquitia Robinson, Teonamy Black, Kennedi Cobin, Deja Scott and Kerrington Howard; her great-granddaughters.Amyia Dixon, Anaria Dixon and Trinity Bibins; and, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be Friday, October 19, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home in Commerce.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church in Mesquite with Rev. David Moore officiating.

Interment will follow at 4 p.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Honey Grove.
