John Hornsby

GREENVILLE — John Delbert “Pepa” Hornsby, 94, passed away Jan. 24, 2013. Heaven’s gates opened wide as “Pepa” danced a jig on the pearly streets of gold.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Wolfe City First Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Chaplain Robert Bailey will preside. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City with pallbearers Jeff McDaniel, Tom Brosius, Charter Bishop, Jeff Hornsby, Lance Hornsby, and Colten Erwin. Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Rhoades, Cecil Fields, Brady Crowell and Gary Giles

He was born to John Henry Hornsby and Nannie May Maples on Feb. 11, 1918, in Windom. He married Imonell Hallum on March 21, 1942, in China Grove.

He served in CCC Camp stationed in Arizona. Mr. Hornsby proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked for and retired from the Bonham Veterans Administration.

He was preceded in death by sisters Lena Hannah, Ruby Fields, Marie Humphries, Carrie Richardson and brother Lee Hornsby.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Imonell Hornsby of the home; a son, Charles Hornsby and wife Debbie of Wolfe City; daughter Aline Speight of Savoy; grandchildren Charla Brosius and husband Tom of Lubbock, Jeff Hornsby of Mineola, Lance Hornsby and wife Penny of Missouri City, Texas, Charon Malone, and husband Rusty of Savoy, Cherly Erwin of Wolfe City, Jeff McDaniel of Wolfe City, Chanda Tanner and husband Phil of Wolfe City, and Chrysta Herbert of Freeport; great-grandchildren Cera Wrisner, Coten Erwin, Jordan Brosius, Justin Brosius, Clare Hornsby, Jocie Hornsby, Bowie, Brook and Ali Tanner, and Josh, Cody and Kayla Herbert; great-great-grandchildren Baylee, Graycee and Laylahh; sisters Bill Price and Mildred Wester; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Vickie Harris with American Best Care Hospice.
