QUINLAN —
Bobby Charles Cates, 77, of Quinlan went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, in Greenville. Funeral services celebrating Bobby’s life will be at 4 p.m. today at Ingram Funeral Home with Sarah Lee Rose and Michael Cates officiating.
Visitation was Sunday afternoon.
Bobby was born Oct. 13, 1935 in Merit, to the late Casey and Pearl Molen Cates (Mama Kearney). He was raised and attended school in Greenville before moving to Dallas where he attended Woodrow Wilson High School.
Bobby was a mechanical contractor in Dallas and had worked for United Plumbing before owning his own company, Ramco Mechanical, which he owned for many years.
He married the former Miss Connie Godbold on Aug. 20, 1977, and they made their home in the Dallas area before moving to Quinlan in 1999. Bobby was a master welder and was a member of the Pipefitters Union in Dallas.
He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, he was a storyteller and a woodworker. Bobby also liked to ride motorcycles and enjoyed feeding a family of raccoons.
He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Terry Murdock, on Dec. 26, 1991.
He is loved and will be missed by his wife Connie of Quinlan; sons, Jim Murdock and wife Jerla of Mesquite, Rusty Cates and wife Courtney of Mesquite, Charles Ray Cates and wife Maureen of Carrollton; daughters Bera Murdock of Longmont, Colo., Jody Perez and husband Rolando of Laredo, Ginger Hicks and husband Jerald of Lone Oak, Marcy Cates of Burleson; brothers, Jerry Don Cates and wife Patricia of Eustace, Tommy Lee Kearney and wife Tammy of Denton; and sisters, Betty Sweetman and husband Raymond of Canton, Sarah Lee Rose and husband R.M. of Garland, and Becky Pierce of Arlington. He had 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family request donations be made to the American Heart Association.
