GREENVILLE — Tonight's downtown Christmas parade in Greenville is just the start of holiday activities scheduled across the area this weekend.
The area Christmas calendar is going to be crowded, with multiple parades, meetings with Santa and concerts Saturday and Sunday.
— “Christmas on Park Street” includes the annual horse drawn Wagon Rides and Lantern Parade. The rides are scheduled Saturday and December 14-15 and offer a leisurely tour of one of the city’s most elaborately lighted areas. The rides start from the parking lot of Park Street Baptist Church. Tickets are $8 per person and a lap child can ride free.
— The annual Park Street Lantern Parade is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, although participants are asked to arrive at 5 p.m. to line up, also at Park Street Baptist Church. Those wanting to participate in the free event are encouraged, but are not required to, wear Victorian costumes during the event.
— Brunch with Santa at the Northeast Texas Children’s Museum in Commerce includes a pancake breakfast, pictures with Santa, Christmas crafts and a children’s choir, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10 at the door.
— The Quinlan Christmas Parade, with the theme of “A Christmas Story,” starts at 2 p.m. Saturday.
— The Royse City Christmas Parade starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on Main Street (State Highway 66). The highway will be closed beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
— The Caddo Mills Christmas Parade of Lights, sponsored by the Caddo Mills Lions Club, starts at 6 p.m. Saturday. Entry forms are available at Caddo Mills City Hall. Those seeking information can call 903-527-3116, extension 104.
— And on Sunday, Classic Christmas is scheduled at Central Christian Church in Greenville, from 3 to 5 p.m. The free community event features European Ensemble (a classically trained four woman String Quartet), Allen Howard on Central Christian's 819-pipe organ abd vocals by The Patterson Family. The event is sponsored by Edward Jones, the Morgan and Gotcher Law Firm and Tyler Investments and benefits the Greenville Suzuki Stings Association.
