Severe weather possible overnight

GREENVILLE — While much of the northeastern United States is digging out from a monster winter storm, Hunt County and most of northeast Texas may be in line for some springtime thunderstorms overnight.

A front is expected to cross the region by early Sunday morning, and strong to potentially severe thunderstorms are in the forecast before it arrives.

After a low around 39 degrees this morning, the National Weather Service forecast was calling for a high of around 63 degrees under mostly cloudy skies this afternoon. There is a slight chance of showers and winds are expected to gust out of the southeast at up to 20 miles per hour.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely tonight, mainly after midnight and with a low around 57 degrees by Sunday morning and winds gusting out of the southeast at up to 25 miles per hour. Some strong to severe storms are expected as the front approaches from the west.

Large hail and damaging winds will be possible with the passage of the storms.

There is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon Sunday, with a high near 67 and a low near 40 degrees Sunday night.
