Details on Friday morning fatal fire

GREENVILLE — A mother and son died and a father was sent to a Dallas hospital Friday, as the result of an early morning fire just west of Greenville.

It was the second tragedy to hit the same family in two years.

Hunt County Fire Marshal Richard Hill said Kellie Blair, 33, and Colin Blair, 6, were killed in the fire on County Road 1063, off of U.S. Highway 380. Corey Blair, 36, was transported to the Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville and later to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. His condition was not immediately available Friday afternoon.

Hill said the first calls of the fire came in shortly after 2 a.m. Friday.

"Greenville was the first fire department on the scene," Hill said.

The wood frame house built in 1970 was a total loss. Hill said the cause of the fire was still under investigation by his office Friday, but that the fire was believed to have started in the north or northeast corner of the residence.

"Our investigation tell us that and witnesses are telliing us that," Hill said.

Kellie and Colin Blair were pronounced dead at the scene by Hunt County Justice of the Peace Aaron Williams. The cause of death pending autopsies by the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office.

Kellie Blair was the sister of Katherine (Carpenter) Mays of Greenville, the wife of Staff Sgt. Chauncy Ryan Mays, who killed while serving in Afghanistan in March 2011.

"That's what I understand," Hill said. "I talked to Katherine this morning."

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
