Funding approved for West Tawakoni water

A state agency has given the City of West Tawakoni funding which will be used to help pay for upgrades in treating the city’s wastewater supply.

The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) Thursday approved by resolution the amount of $227,500 to the City of West Tawakoni, consisting of a loan in the amount of $115,000 and $112,500 in loan forgiveness from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund to finance wastewater system improvements.

The City of West Tawakoni intends to use the funds to expand its wastewater treatment plant.

The funds are part of almost $21 million in financial assistance to utilities across the state approved by the board Thursday.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the State Water Plan for the development of the state’s water resources.

The TWDB administers cost-effective financial programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
