Trial in 2011 burglary to start

GREENVILLE — A Tarrant County man, shot in a reported 2011 break-in, is facing a potential life prison sentence on a charge of burglary.

Taurs Dwight Jones of Arlington has entered a plea of not guilty to an indictment of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit assault.

Jury selection in Jones’ trial is scheduled Tuesday in the 354th District Court.

The Hunt County Courthouse is closed today for the Veterans Day holiday.

Jones was wounded during an incident at a local apartment.

According to a report from the Greenville Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly after 8 a.m. March 13, 2011 to a report of a shooting at an apartment at 2004 Wesley Street.

The responding officers found that one person had been shot.

The resident of the apartment reported that Jones came in and began to assault another person who was visiting him. The resident, who was also assaulted, retrieved a firearm to protect himself.

During the confrontation Jones was shot one time and was transported by helicopter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas where he was treated and released.

Jones was later arrested by the Arlington Police Department on a warrant from the Greenville Police Department.

The indictment is a first degree felony, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of from five to 99 years to life in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.

The indictment lists a previous conviction for Jones, for unauthorized use of a vehicle, from Dallas County in 1994.
