GREENVILLE — Hunt County, along with Kaufman, Rains, Rockwall and Van Zandt counties, have been placed under a "very high" level of fire danger today by the Texas A&M University Forest Service, due to the threat of gusty winds and the continued drought conditions in the area.
Portions of Collin and Hopkins counties were also listed under the very high fire danger designation today, with most of the remaining surrounding area under "high" fire danger.
There is a chance of showers and/or thunderstorms in the forecast for the next few days, with some light rain having fallen earlier today.
Hunt County is not under a burn ban, although there are restrictions to outdoor burning. The burning of household trash is only permissible during daylight hours and the wind speed cannot be greater than 23 mph. Natural materials, such as brush and limbs can be burned, but not treated or painted lumber. No prohibited material — including but not limited to rubber, plastics, wire, insulation and furniture — can be burned, and a responsible person must be present during active burning.
