Hunt County commissioners accepted the annual Hunt County Jail Inspection and gave their approval for the county to auction surplus equipment during Monday’s regular meeting of the Commissioners Court.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Hunt County Jail has achieved compliance with the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
The most recent inspection was conducted by TCJS Inspector Fred St. Amant on Jan. 25 and 26. Amant’s inspection concluded that the jail is in compliance with Texas Minimum Jail Standards. The inspection examined several hundred criteria on topics ranging from construction, records, the kitchen, health services, prisoner cells, supervision, sanitation, discipline, grievances and complaints and work assignments.
Adan Munoz, Jr., executive director of TCJS issued a letter to Meeks on Jan. 27 acknowledging the accomplishment.

Commissioners also approved the auction of surplus equipment. The equipment that will be auction include: the boiler system at the courthouse, used steam radiators and piping, kitchen equipment, a wrecked 2009 Dodge Charger, an 18-by-16-foot steel deck bridge, office equipment and a variety of computer and recording equipment.
The auction opens at 10 a.m. Friday and will end at 10 a.m. on March 21. The auction will be conducted by Rene Bates Auctioneers of McKinney. Information regarding the items will be available at www.renebates.com.
In other actions, commissioners:
• Proclaimed the week of March 20 through 26 as Poison Prevention Week in Hunt County;
• Passed a resolution in support of legislation to increase the warrant fee;
• Received the annual report from the Hunt County Historical Commission;
• Received the quarterly report for Lakes Regional MHMR;
• Re-appointed Matt Wolff as the Hunt County representative for the North Texas Behavioral Health Authority; and
• Approved the lowering of the water level on flood control dam 54R in the Pilot Grove Watershed in Precinct 1 to allow engineering service to be conducted for a scheduled bridge replacement.
The next regular meeting of the Commissioners Court is scheduled for March 14.
