Arrest made in hospital lockdown

COMMERCE — Acting on a tip, the Commerce Police Department completed an investigation into the identity of the individual that caused the Hunt Regional Community Hospital and the Commerce Independent School District to go into lockdown Oct. 4 by arresting Lisa Fowler, 32, of Campbell.

Fowler was charged with deadly conduct after her arrest on Oct. 10, a Class A misdemeanor, and has since posted a $5,000 bond pending trial.

The Commerce Police Department responded Oct, 4 to a report of an armed suspect at approximately 11 a.m., prompting lockdowns of the hospital, four CISD campuses and the CISD Administration Building.

The suspect was initially described as a white male, believed to be in his 20s with dark hair. He was wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans, according to a release by the CPD.

“Initially it was thought that the suspect was a male,” Suarez said. “However, it was determined that Ms. Fowler could have been mistaken for a man due to her slender build, facial features and her short hair, which is usually spiked.”

According to Commerce Police Department Communications Officer Alex Suarez, Fowler was seated on a bench in front of the hospital for a couple hours before a member of the hospital staff attempted to make contact with her.

At that time, the staff member saw a handgun on the bench next to Fowler, and alerted authorities. Suarez said that Fowler probably fled the scene when she heard sirens.

“At this point, we don’t know what her motives were,” he said. “There’s not much we can go on because she didn’t want to talk about it. Whether she meant for it to be alarming or not, it doesn’t matter, because it alarmed the entire hospital staff.”
