GREENVILLE —
Heavy rain fell on portions of Greenville and Hunt County Friday, for the second day in a row, even as funnel clouds were spotted in the area shortly before noon.
The National Weather Service said there was a potential for funnel clouds to form among the thunderstorms which will pop up during the afternoon. However, the funnel clouds were not expected to reach the ground and no severe weather warnings had been issued. The rain also helped keep the temperatures down well below what had been the norm during the past week or so.
Friday’s rains had forced the postponement of the Fishing Friday event until July 9. There was no word as of early afternoon as to whether the storms would impact the schedule of the Scott Firefighters Combat Challenge, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. today at the Greenville SportsPark.
