Sheriff candidate dropping out of race

GREENVILLE — Incumbent Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks has essentially won re-election to the office, as the only remaining opponent in the race announced he is withdrawing from contention.

W.F. “Bill” McLendon, who had filed his intent to run as an independent candidate for sheriff, issued a statement Tuesday indicating that he would no longer be seeking the office.

“When I filed to run for Sheriff it was  with the full support of my wife, parents, family and many, many supporters,” McLendon said. “The recent passing of my father has helped me to realize the responsibilities, obligations and concerns that I must attend to regarding matters of my father’s estate and the on-going needs of our family. In that regard, and due to the time required involving these matters."
