Boards to discuss some potential new industries
GREENVILLE — The boards of Greenville’s economic development agencies will meet this week to discuss potential new industries for the city.
The Greenville Board of Development and the 4A Economic Development Corporation will conduct a joint meeting at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the conference room on the eighth floor of the Paul Mathews Exchange Building, 2500 Stonewall Street.
Both the Board of Development and the 4A Economic Development Corporation are made up of the same individuals and serve the same purpose, recruiting new businesses to Greenville. However, they vary in how they are funded. While the Board of Development receives an annual allocation from the Greenville Electric Utility System, the 4A Economic Development Corporation receives a rededication of one-eighth of one percent of the sales tax rebate revenue collected by the City of Greenville.
The board(s) is scheduled Tuesday to receive a presentation from Ticknor and Associates concerning a Strategic Marketing Study/Plan. During a closed door executive session, the panel intends to discuss and possibly consider offers concerning one or more business prospects, identified on Tuesday’s agenda as Project CEM III, Project Raspberry and Industrial Park West.
Officials with the Board of Development/4A recently said the corporation would use about $500,000 it has on hand, then apply for a loan of approximately $3 million from the Texas Leverage Fund, in order to pay for improvements in the Industrial Park West, south of U.S. Highway 380. The money was be used for infrastructure improvements such as water and sewer lines, an upgrade to the park’s sanitary sewer lift station, a road from Highway 380 to the Northeast Texas Rural Rail Transportation District (NETEX) rail line, a water detention pond and a landscaped entrance to the park.
