Woman killed in wreck on highway
Services have been scheduled for a Greenville-area woman, killed in a Wednesday morning two vehicle accident on a newly-opened stretch of US. Highway 380 in west Hunt County.
Leslie Shawn Morales, 43, died when the vehicle she was driving collided with a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Farm-To-Market Road 36 east of Farmersville, according to Trooper Phillip McKenzie with the Texas Department of Public Safety Office in Greenville, who was the lead investigator of the accident.
Morales was driving a sport utility vehicle accident southbound on FM 36 shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday when she appeared to have disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. Highway 380. The area of the highway which passes through the intersection was just reopened Tuesday following a Texas Department of Transportation improvement project and is still considered a construction zone, McKenzie said.
Morales’ vehicle hit a west bound tractor trailer rig, which was traveling westbound on Highway 380 at the posted speed limit of 70 miles per hour.
“She hit is almost in the middle,” McKenzie said, adding the rear tires on the semi then struck the left quarter panel of the sport utility vehicle. “This caused her to roll right over top into a ditch.”
The driver of the tractor trailer, which was headed to the Dallas area, was uninjured.
A graveside service for Morales is scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday at Foster Cemetery in Foster, Okla. Peters Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
