County to consider enacting burn ban
The implementation of a burn ban and a reduction in the mileage rate for county employees will be discussed during the regular meeting of the Commissioners Court Monday morning.
“I believe it’s time,” said Fire Marshal Richard Hill. “We definitely have to look at it Monday.”
The Texas Forest Service Friday listed Hunt County and the surrounding area under a “moderate” danger of wild fires, and Fannin County is currently under a ban on outdoor burning.
According to Hill, several factors, including the Keetch-Byram index, wind, and dead vegetation have raised the risk for fires.
If the ban is enacted, it will be illegal to burn trash and bush, and is in effect for 90-days or until Hunt County officials remove it. The burn ban does not include outdoor cooking or outdoor welding.
Commissioners will also:
• Discuss and possibly take action on reduction of mileage reimbursement from 58.5 cents to 55 cents per mile effective Jan. 1, 2009;
• Discuss and possibly take action on final plat for Sunfire Estates, phase one, in Precinct 3;
• Discuss and possibly take action on bonds, completions, and immediate plans for the Villages at Lone Oak in Precinct 3;
• Discuss and possibly take action on permission to construct electrical power distribution facilities along and across CR 2708 in Precinct 2;
• Discuss and possibly take action to upgrade approximately 300 fee of CR 2566 from dirt to rock;
• Discuss and possibly take action on Hunt County’s participation in the County Wellness Program through the Texas Association of Counties Health and Employees Benefits Pool;
• Possibly accept a formal bid for a premixed oil and sand contract from R.K. Hall Construction Company;
• Possibly accept a vehicle tires contract from Discount Wheel & Tire Company;
• Discuss and possibly take action to give consent for Precinct 4 to enter into an intergovenmental service agreement with the City of Commerce regarding CR 4320, in which the City of Commerce will provide materials not to exceed $5,000, and Hunt County will provide the labor and maintenance on the road;
• Discuss and possibly take action on acceptance of Tammi Noah as Commissioner Phillip Martin’s appointee to the Lake Tawakoni Zoning Board, per the existing board members’ recommendations.
The Commissioners Court meets at 10 a.m. in the Auxiliary Courtroom, located at 2700 Johnson Street.
