A former Hunt County constable allegedly warned he would not be taken alive by law enforcement, after he shot two people in Rockwall last weekend.
Affidavits in a support of arrest warrants for Anthony Dewayne Lewis, 47, reveal he called 911 as he was being pursued following the shooting at The Harbor.
“He stated he had just shot two people,” the affidavits from Rockwall Police Department Detective Kevin Tilley said. “He additionally stated that he was armed and would not be taken alive by law enforcement.”
Lewis was captured and taken into custody after being shot by officers once the high speed pursuit ended in Greenville.
The arrest affidavits were in support of filing murder and attempted murder charges against Lewis.
Jessica Aguilar, 33, of Rockwall was killed and Francisco Delacruz, 40, of Dallas was wounded in the Saturday night shooting.
At last report, Lewis remained hospitalized in Dallas and had been charged with one count each of murder and attempted murder, with a total $1.5 million bond set.
The affidavits indicate that the police department was notified of the shooting in the overflow parking lot at the Harbor at 7:53 p.m. Saturday. The caller said the suspect fled the scene in a black Mini Cooper. Witnesses at the scene advised the suspect was Aguilar’s ex-boyfriend, named Anthony.
Lewis’ vehicle was spotted by law enforcement a short time later and the pursuit began, ending on ther service road of westbound Interstate 30, near the Monty Stratton Parkway.
“The suspect vehicle was eventually disabled via spike strips, Tilley said. “When the vehicle came to a stop, the suspect exited his vehicle and pointed a handgun at officers. He was shot by officers at that time.”
A 9 mm handgun in Lewis’ possession was recovered at the scene.
Lewis will also likely be charged in connection with the incident on Interstate 30, although there was no indication Thursday whether those charges had yet been filed.
The Rockwall shooting is under investigation by the Rockwall Police Department. The Hunt County shooting is under investigation by the Texas Rangers.
Lewis had previously served as Constable for Precinct 2.
