Highway corridor plan nearing completion

A 30-year-long project is finally seeing the end of the tunnel as the last 10 miles of State Highway 24, from Commerce to Cooper in Delta County, will be upgraded from the current two lanes to a four-lane highway with a 76 foot depressed median.

According to Commerce City Manager Marc Clayton, construction should begin in August of 2013 and will take between 20 and 24 months to complete.

“This is the final piece in the State Highway 24 corridor plan,” he said.

When construction is complete, the four-lane highway would connect Interstate 30 with the Indian Nation Turnpike in Hugo, Okla.
