Prison sentence handed down in March knife attack

GREENVILLE — A local man has been sentenced to prison and fined after pleading guilty to attacking a woman with a knife in March.

Antonio Markeith Jones, 33, of Greenville, received one indictment in May for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family violence. Jones was alleged in the indictment to have chased and threatened a female victim with a knife on March 28.

During a hearing in the 196th District Court Wednesday, Jones was sentenced to eight years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division and was fined $1,000.,

As a deadly weapon was found to have been used in the assault, Jones will have to spend at least half of the sentence in custody before being eligible to be considered for parole.

Aggravated assault is a second degree felony, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of from two to 20 years in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.
