Getting into spirit of Christmas

GREENVILLE — After sponsoring a family during the Christmas season for many years, the Corbetts have decided to do something different with their company, Red-E Air, this time.

“We’ve always tried to sponsor a family, so we’d go to the schools to find a family to sponsor,” Buffie Corbett, of Red-E Air said. “This year we are doing a toy, coat and portable heater drive. Anything to keep people warm and kids happy.”

Corbett said she goes to the schools because the teachers have first hand experience on who could use the support the most.

“Schools are the best place to go because they really know the kids,” she said. “So the toys are going to all the local schools in Hunt County.”

Corbett said her first priorty is the children.

“We’ve focusing on giving back to the kids because that is where it needs to go,” she said. “The kids are our future. We want the children to know that their community is supporting them and wants them to succeed.”

According to Corbett, the company is working with all the local schools in the area.

“We are working with Greenville, Lone Oak, Quinlan and Commerce Independent School Districts, and with booster clubs,” she said. “Our focus is trying to give back to the kids.”

When children come back from Christmas break, the hot topic of conversation is usually the gifts they received. Corbett said she wants every kid to be able to brag about what they got.

“It’s very hard to go to school after Christmas break hearing other kids saying ‘I got this’ or ‘I got that’ is disheartening to them,” she said.

Corbett said they are also giving an incentive for making a donation. Red-E Air will be giving out $10 off coupons for service for a donation to one of the drop off locations.

The drive is running now through Dec. 16, and donations can be made in Greenville at the Kwik Kar Auto Spa on 5114 Wesley Street, the Kwick Kar Lube & Tube on 6102 Wesley Street, Carol’s Hair Hut Station on 4503 King Street, and Travel Dreams located at 8801 Wesley Street. Hometown Car Wash & Laundromat located on 9012 Highway 34 in Quinlan is also taking the donations of unopened toys, coats and portable heaters.
