Election day approaching

Voters head to the polls Tuesday to make their picks for a Hunt County commissioner and two county constables.

They will be also casting ballots for the next president of the United States.

Polls will be open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on election day.

A sample ballot and a list of polling locations is included in the Herald-Banner today on Page A9.

It could be a long election night, given the record number of early votes cast locally, as well as a record number of registered voters statewide.

Texas Secretary of State Hope Andrade reported that Texas has more than 13.64 million registered voters; the highest number in state history. The previous record number of registered voters was 13,575,062 set for the November 2008 General Election.

Hunt County voters get to help decide who will be the next U.S. Representative from House District 4. The contest is between incumbent Republican U. S. Representative Ralph Hall of Rockwall, Democrat VaLinda Hathcox of Sulphur Springs and Libertarian Party candidate Thomas Griffing of Dallas.

The race for Hunt County Commissioner Precinct 1 is between Republican Eric Evans and Democrat Jerry Minter.

Republican incumbent Constable for Precinct 1 Terry Jones is facing Democrat Glenn Stone

And incumbent Constable for Precinct 2, Democrat Wayne “Doc Pierce, is facing Republican Charles Adams.

The race to see who will be the President of the United States is between incumbent President Barack Obama, the Democratic Party candidate, Republican Mitt Romney, Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

The Texas Senate contest features Republican Ted Cruz facing Democrat Paul Sadler, Libertarian John Jay Myers and Green Party candidate David B. Collins.
