GREENVILLE —
The City Council plans tonight to authorize the purchase of four more Chevrolet Tahoes for use by the Greenville Police Department.
The vote is scheduled during the consent calendar as part of the regular agenda, starting at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building. A work session is also scheduled for 5 p.m. today.
Finance Director Cliff Copeland, in a memo to the Council, noted the city also purchased four Tahoes as replacement vehicles during the 2010/2011 budget year.
“The replacement of Police vehicles is intended to maintain the necessary level of safety and reduce operating costs by eliminating excessive repairs to obsolete equipment and equipment where repair costs potentially exceed the vehicle’s value,” Copeland said.
The current budget included $168,768 for the purchase of four more Tahoes for use by the police department, to replace three aging Dodge Chargers or other model patrol units.
“Three of the units that are due to be replaced have been damaged to the extent where repair costs exceed the vehicle’s worth,” Copeland said. “The new Tahoes will replace these three units as well as one other currently in the Patrol division, which will be determined when the new vehicles arrive.”
Copeland sad the city received HGAC pricing through Caldwell Country Chevrolet as well as from Britain Chevrolet, Greenville’s local Chevrolet dealer, although the best estimate — $167,620.32 — came through the Texas Smart Buy Contract through Reliable Chevrolet.
