Sheriff: Alert neighbor catches burglary suspects

GREENVILLE — Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks is crediting the actions of an alert neighbor for helping capture two burglary suspects who allegedly had been plaguing the northern part of the county during the past few weeks.

Meek said the neighbor spotted Thomas Leeth, 25, of Celeste along with David Scott Rozell, 32, of Greenville attempting to break into a residence on FM 118 near Jacobia Friday afternoon.

“The neighbor gave deputies a very detailed description of the vehicle that the suspects were driving,” Meeks said. “They were located around 6  p.m. by another alert citizen near Graham Park in Greenville who contacted an Investigator in the area.”

A felony stop on the suspect’s vehicle was made near Crockett School on Wolfe City Drive.

Leeth and Rozell were arrested and transported to the Hunt County Jail. The driver of the vehicle, Kaitlin Wells, 24, of Terrell was also taken into custody for a traffic offense and was also transported to the Hunt County Jail.

Leeth and Rozell were charged with unlawful use of a criminal instrument with bond being set at $60,000 each. A number of items of stolen property as well as a stolen 2012 Kawasaki Motorcycle were recovered.

Meeks said additional felony charges are expected to be filed soon by the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office and by other affected law enforcement agencies as a result of the investigation.

“I want to thank Constable Terry Jones in assistance with this case,” Meeks said. “Also, I want to commend Deputy Baret Sanders in making the felony stop and subsequent arrest of these suspects.

Once again, help from the great citizens of Hunt County helped us to capture and arrest these thieves that had been stealing from our citizens and businesses.

Anyone or business who has recently purchased or acquired property from these two suspects are urged to contact the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office to avoid possible prosecution for receiving stolen property.”
