Almost time to cut grass

GREENVILLE — It won’t be long before the mowing season arrives and with that in mind the Greenville City Council is about to buy some new equipment for the Parks and Recreation Department.

The Council is scheduled to approve the purchase of six mowers, with the vote coming during Tuesday’s regular session, starting at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street. A work session is also set for 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The funds for the mowers were included among the almost $2.5 million in certificates of obligation the Council agreed to issue last month.

In a memo to the Council, Parks and Recreation Director Colby VanGundy said the equipment is being purchased from Austin Turf and Tractor through the Texas Buy Board.

“The Texas Buy Board offers purchasing for both mowing and turf maintenance equipment with John Deere,” VanGundy said. “The new purchases being the same brand will allow for easier and more constant maintenance of the equipment.”

The city intends to buy one John Deere 1435 deck mower, one John Deere 8800 finish mower, one John Deere 7400 finish mower, one John Deere TX Turf Gator, one John Deere CX15 Cutter, and one Land Pride AFM 4014 Finish Mower, at a total cost of $132,000.
