A local man is facing a revocation of his probation on a charge of murder, after he was found to be driving without a license.
A hearing is scheduled in the 196th District Court today concerning the probation of Rickey Allen Turner. Turner, 26, of Greenville, was convicted of murder as a juvenile in October 2005, in connection with the death of his infant daughter. Turner has since been caught driving while his license was suspended or invalid three times, with the most recent incident occurring last month.
Turner was convicted of a juvenile charge of murder in October 2005. Turner had been accused of causing the death of two-month old Kirriora Turner in March 2004, when he was 16 years old.
Witnesses who testified during the trial in the Hunt County Court-at-Law indicated the child suffered head trauma after being violently shaken.
Turner agreed to plead guilty to the murder charge and in return, prosecutors agreed not to pursue a charge of capital murder in the case.
The judge in the case sentenced Rickey Turner to 10 years in prison, then probated the sentence for 10 years.
Prosecutors sought to revoke the probation in April 2009, after Turner was found driving while his license was suspended for the second time. Turner was also alleged to have committed a theft at a Mesquite shopping center and to have failed to participate and work in the community service restitution program.
Turner was given 60 days in jail at that time as a sanction and the motion to revoke his probation was dismissed.
Turner was arrested again on January 21 after being found driving without a license for the third time.
Another motion to revoke Turner’s probation on the murder charge was filed February 6 and he was also alleged to not be participating in the community service restitution program.
Turner remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail while awaiting today’s hearing.
