City attorney resigning

GREENVILLE — The Greenville City Council is scheduled to meet one more time this year, to accept the resignation of City Attorney Brent A. Money.

The Council is set to meet in a special session starting at 12:30 p.m. Friday in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street, at which time they are also scheduled to name Daniel W. Ray as City Attorney.

Money was named City Attorney in January 2008,  after Robert L. Scott turned in his resignation. Money had been filling in as City Attorney since the summer of 2007.

Daniel Ray, who works in the same law firm with Money and Scott, was hired as the Assistant City Attorney at that time.

Earlier this month, the Council hired Scott as a special counsel to represent the City of Greenville on all matters relating to L-3 Communications Integrated Systems.

Friday’s meeting includes an executive session under Section 551.074 of the Texas Government Code, which allows the Council “to deliberate the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline, or dismissal of a public officer or employee; or to hear a complaint or charge against an officer or employee.”

The Council will return to open session to take any action.
