KCS Holiday Express in Greenville Saturday

GREENVILLE — Christmas will be arriving in Greenville by train this weekend, and area residents have a chance to climb aboard for free.

Greenville is going to be one of the destinations on the 12th Annual Kansas City Southern (KCS) Holiday Express.

The train is scheduled to make a stop in Greenville at 4 p.m. Saturday at 2801 Stuart Street, which is also the parking lot for the Hunt County Criminal Justice Center.

During the free event, visitors will be able board the train, visit with Santa and his elves and tour the inside of three cars of the six-car train.

The Holiday Express train includes a smiling tank car “Rudy”; a flatcar carrying Santa’s sleigh, reindeer and a miniature village; a ginger bread boxcar; a newly remodeled elves’ workshop; the reindeer stable; and a little red caboose. Each car is dressed in lights.

The event is free and no ticket is required to attend.

The Holiday Express will distribute gift cards to the Salvation Army to provide warm clothing and other necessities for children in need at stops along the route.

The Holiday Express was built on the tradition of the Santa Train, which ran on a segment of the network purchased by KCS in 1997.
