Opening arguments and the start of testimony are scheduled today in the trial of a local man, charged with murder, in connection with a shooting death in Greenville during the summer of 2011.
The trial of Antonio Derrance Fletcher is set to begin at 9 a.m. in the 354th District Court.
Fletcher, 26, has pleaded not guilty to one count of murder, in connection with the death Javon Newman.
Fletcher and Devin Eugene Royal, both of Greenville, were taken into custody on the evening of July 4, 2011 in Dallas.
Royal was previously convicted of Newman’s murder and was sentenced to life in prison.
Officers responded to a call of shots being fired at a local apartment complex early on the morning of July 2, 2011 and found that Newman had been shot multiple times. Individuals who witnessed the shooting identified Fletcher and Royal as suspects in the offense.
