Two local parks getting bigger?

GREENVILLE — Potential expansions of two local parks are scheduled to be discussed this week, during a session of the City of Greenville Board of Parks and Recreation.

The board is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street. The panel may also consider which local parks are next in line to be considered for an upgrade.

The seven-member board makes recommendations to the Greenville City Council on issues concerning parks and recreation and assists in Arbor Day events. In addition, the board serves as the City’s Tree Board.

Under old business Tuesday, the board intends to consider land acquisition at the Wright Park golf course. Under new business Tuesday, the board is set to discuss and possibly take action on an expansion of the Greenville SportsPark as well as a playground selection process.

Parks and Recreation Director Colby VanGundy said the board recently chose to recommend Oak Creek Park to be the next local park to be in line for a renovation of playground equipment and other facilities.

The Greenville City Council has announced it is intending to include $40,000 for the renovation of Oak Creek Park as part of $2.5 million in certificates of obligation it intends to formally issue next week.
