Guilty pleas expected in alleged home invasion robbery

GREENVILLE — A second local man could plead guilty to a charge of armed robbery in connection with a reported home invasion in Greenville last summer.

Damontreous Deuntay Williams and Payton Ryan Loya, both of Greenville, were indicted in September by the Hunt County grand jury on one count each of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, burglary of a habitation with intent to commit theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Williams has previously pleaded not guilty to the indictments, although Williams is scheduled to plead guilty to the charges during a hearing scheduled Thursday, Jan. 10, in the 196th District Court.

Williams is facing up to life in prison on both the robbery and burglary indictments. He remained in custody Thursday at the Hunt County Jail.

Loya pleaded guilty to all three counts in November and was sentenced to 15 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division.

The indictments allege Loya acted alongside Williams, who was arrested by the Greenville Police Department on the afternoon of Aug. 11, 2012 and was alleged to have forced his way into a home, to have held a gun to the head of a female victim while in the course of committing a theft and to have stolen the victim’s vehicle.

The aggravated robbery and burglary of a habitation indictments are first degree felonies, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of up to life in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.

The unauthorized use of a vehicle charge carries a maximum punishment upon conviction of up to two years in a state jail.
