Saturday will be busier than usual for the City of Greenville Parks and Recreation Department.
Local residents will be able to get their first look at the revamped Graham Park on one side of town and then have a chance to get freaky, show off their Halloween costumes and enjoy a movie on the other side.
A grand opening celebration for Graham Park, which has undergone a $1 million renovation effort, is scheduled for noon Saturday at 800 Walnut Street, the park’s main entrance. The event is expected to include free hot dogs, music, guest speakers and more
The City of Greenville received a $500,000 grant from the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife for the effort to renovate Graham Park and provided a $500,000 match.
The improvements under the project included fountains, a fishing pier, a nine-hole disc golf course, a walking trail, a dog park and a splash pad, which will be available for use at the push of a button.
The banks of the Graham Park “lake” were stabilized, while new and updated playground equipment was installed
The Sports Facility Construction Company received the bid on the project. The park has been closed to the public since ground was broken for the project in April.
Starting at 4 p.m. Saturday, the Greenville SportsPark will play host to the Freaky 5K Run for your Life and Movie in the Park. The Dr. Les T. Sandknop Family Practice and Cactus Saddlery are presenting the event, which includes a costume contest with $500 in cash prizes at 4:45 p.m., the Freaky 5K Run (with registration starting at 4 p.m. Saturday) and a free showing of “Puss in Boots” at 7 p.m.
