Tax credits talk

To the editor:

Newell Rubbermaid Inc. will relocate production jobs from a plant in Texas to an Ohio facility, where the company said it will invest more than $25 million and create about 140 full-time jobs, the Akron Beacon Journal reported Monday.

Ohio granted the Atlanta-based company $3 million in tax credits this week in exchange for retaining existing jobs at its Mogadore, Ohio, plant, which must remain in that location for at least 18 years to keep the tax credit.

The 700-employee Mogadore injection molding facility produces food storage containers and other products. Newell Rubbermaid (NYSE:NWL) is closing a 490-employee plant in Texas and moving those operations to Mogadore and Kansas.

  • Vote for new Y

I write to support the YMCA bond election from a perspective of the role they provide in the health of our community. As a health care professional, I have long understood and supported the need and development of a comprehensive Health and Wellness Center which could serve not only as a fitness center and playground, but as a cornerstone for building and maintaining healthy bodies and lifestyles.

  • In support of new Y

A number of Greenville citizens have asked if we can afford a new YMCA. After many years of being a part of the Y, I think the question is, can we afford not to build a new YMCA?

  • Examine the facts

  • Proven for the job

It has come to my attention that Tyson Cox has declined a candidate’s forum with Dan Perkins sponsored by GEUS. The forum was to be broadcast on their network.

  • Vote for new Y

My wife, Marilyn, and I want to encourage the citizens of Greenville to vote in support of the YMCA project.

  • Cox good choice

I was born and raised in Greenville and have lived here most of my life, except for the two years my husband, Perry M. Smith, was in dental school and the two years he practiced dentistry in West Texas.

  • Endorsing Cox

We don’t often write letters to the editor and even more rarely endorse political candidates. But we could not pass up the opportunity to offer our wholehearted endorsement for Tyson  Cox.
